Once a saint was going home to home asking for alms. He knocked on a door and called out,
“Bhiksham Dehi (Give me alms).”
A little girl came out of house and sadly said,
“Baba, we are poor, we have nothing to give you.”
Saint smiled and said, “Do not refuse daughter.
If you don’t have anything else, you can give me some mud from your house courtyard.”
Girl picked up a handful of mud and put it in saint’s alms-pot.

There was a disciple who was accompanying saint. He saw all this and asked saint, “Guru ji, We could have go to another house for alms.
Why did you ask her to give you mud in alms?”
Saint replied, “Son, if she had said no today, she would never have been able to give again.
Today, you know what happened when when she gave mud? She will learn to give.
Today, mud has been given, if spirit of giving has awakened in her. If it becomes strong, she will give fruits and flowers in future.’
Ancient Hindu texts stress the importance of giving donations on Makar Sankranti a day that marks the end of the bitter cold, when the sun transits to Capricorn heralding good tidings, harvest and prosperity. The wise sages also stressed to get young children to so that the Spirit of Giving is Inculcated in them from a young age.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year full of good health, happiness and success!

While meditating this morning before my cards I asked the question “What message can I share with the world for 2023?” and the card of Sharing appeared. “Again.” I thought and the cards reminded me that lessons are repeated until all of us learn. Sharing, giving back, generosity have been spoken about again and again by the ancients reminding us that the key to happiness is not limited to thinking about only ourselves, our comfort, our growth but going beyond to our community, our neighbours, our co-inhabitants on this planet. When we give our time, our energy, our possessions, we receive a reward that’s incomparable. It’s a deep, fulfilling satisfaction that reminds us that we are not here only for ourselves but for the others at large.

The world too will see instances where people’s selflessness will bring gasps of admiration. Inclusivity not only in the workplace, in politics and media will grow as minorities, women, people of colour, the queer communit, people with special needs are given more space to express themselves and be heard. Collaborations between countries be it in terms of trade, medicine or knowledge increase. The more you give, the more you receive. The more you think in terms of the other person, the team, the community and the world, the more everyone benefits and grows.

“We make a living by what we have. We make a life by what we give”

Sharing goes beyond making a donation. Sharing can be giving food to a hungry soul. Giving time to someone who needs you. Giving credit to the others in a team. Expressing feelings of appreciation to those who made a difference. Encouraging and motivating a student. Lending a hand.

We’ve seen enough examples of selfish behaviour in the past. And it’s brought no one happiness. Not the taker, not the person who’s been used by the taker. Time to shift the paradigm if we want to make this world a wee bit better.

“Happiness comes from helping others, by being with others, and by sharing, even if it’s only a smile.”

Practising Kintsugi (without the gold)

When something broke I would almost always throw it away. But when I bought this little figurine I couldn’t bring myself to put it in the trash. There was something so peaceful about it, I decided to practice a little Kintsugi with some superglue, and alas no gold paint.

Kintsugi is a beautiful Japanese technique that stems from the Wabi Sabi philosophy which teaches us to embrace and accept the imperfections and flaws of living. It gives you permission to be yourself without trying to be super perfect and teaches us that all things, including us and life itself, are impermanent, incomplete, and imperfect. According to Kintsugi, the marks of wear and tear and use of any object are held in high regard and considered aesthetic, thereby giving birth to this beautifully empowering and artistic concept.

Kintsugi reminds us that there is great beauty in broken things because scars tell a story. They demonstrate fortitude, wisdom, and resilience, earned through the passage of time. What’s the point in hiding a scar or a flaw, when they actually make things more beautiful and real?

More on this later:)

CRYSTAL TIPS 2 – BROKEN CRYSTALS

broken crystals, crystalcaretips, healingcrystals

The other day I received an email, here’s an excerpt:

Dear Mita,

In 2008 I had consulted you and taken 3 healing crystals for a stressful time in my life. Now I have even forgotten what they were for but they helped as there is so much peace in my life now thankfully. I found them in my bedside table today and dropped them by mistake and they have chipped and cracked. Does this mean bad luck??? What do I do with the broken crystals?”

Thanks for reaching out. And I am glad the crystals brought you peace at a time you needed it. According to ancient Crystal healers, a crystal breaks, cracks, falls off the ring clasp or even shatters when it’s work was done. Not a sign of bad luck at all, just a response by the crystals who have absorbed all that they could.

What do you do with broken crystals?

These gifts from Mother Earth are happiest in their natural habitat. And the best thing you can do is to return them. You may like to spend a few moments in reflection and gratitude for the peace they brought you and then :

  1. Bury them underground. And if you’re in a high rise apartment, bury them in a potted plant.
  2. Release them in running water – river, lake, sea, ocean.

Their work was done. A new chapter begins.

Wishing you peace and good health.

Don’t throw old your old crystals please to buy new ones. Many mines have been blasted and depleted of their resources. Work with your old crystals by cleansing and energising them.

If you have any questions about your current crystals, do feel free to drop a message and if you’re on Instagram, do like and follow for more crystal tips.

Seeing 1111 all the time? Here’s A Personal Decode

Recently 3 people reached out to me asking me what I felt about seeing 1111, 2222, 1212 etc daily. There are so many theories around this growing global phenomena, here’s my take

https://www.elephantjournal.com/2021/01/1111-again-a-personal-decode/

What numbers do you see on a regular basis? What does it mean to you?

Underwater World Sentosa Island 2008

He was mesmerised by the jellyfish in Underwater World.

For a long time he kept staring and chatting with them.

“Come on son, let’s see the other fish” I grew impatient.

“No I have to meet their whole family. See that’s the mummy”

I peered at the translucent jellyfish who glided by gracefully.

Within seconds she was joined by a smaller version of herself

and we gazed at one another across the glass.

“Look son, these are humans. See that’s the boy and his Mommy”

Thank you

This morning I woke up with a fullness in my heart. 2020 is nearly over and what a year it’s been. The rollercoaster ride of emotions, the lockdowns, the horrifying news on TV and then the series of heartbreaks as I said good bye to so many dear souls who crossed over. The waves of gratitude engulfed me as I realised just how much I am thankful for. Still doing what I love. And so thankful to all of you who have trusted and supported me down 18 years of reading Tarot and healing. I wish you good health, peace and happiness. And will continue to read your cards and offer distant healing whenever I can and with every earning I can do my bit for a cause that”s dear to my heart – wildlife and street animals. Thank you.

God Bless and May there be peace and healing for all.

Throwback Thursday. Planetary Reminders

10 Thursday Dec 2020

Posted by mitabhan in dosomethingforearth, Earth, Nature, Throwback Thursday

“What are you doing to protect our planet?”

Eight years ago our children were reminding us to do something.

Eight years on, I still remind myself to be mindful about the environment and have reduced, reused

and recycled, forgotten at times, felt guilty at times, but it isn’t enough and I know it.

Here are some timely reminders which I hope will help you as well.

  • As far as possible go chemical free. Read more labels. Opt for natural, homegrown, organic and local produce.
  • Single use plastic and masks should be used as the last option. Opt for reusable.
  • How much stuff do we all truly need. Open the wardrobes and give to the needy.
  • Animals and Birds are far purer in mind and heart than many many human beings. Volunteer. Share information about rescued street animals, injured birds, foster appeals, fundraisers, missing pets. Something is better than nothing. If you can’t help them. Then don’t hurt them.
  • Reduce water wastage. Save all left over water in a watering can and water the plants.
  • Stay in touch with Nature. Go for forest walks. Start gardening. Meditate outdoors.

We have only one home and that’s our planet. Even the smallest effort to reduce our carbon footprint can make a difference, and if I live to see grandchildren I do hope they see a cleaner, greener world.
