Considered to be one of the most luxurious oils in aromatherapy, Neroli essential oil is used extensively in healing and in skin care.
A personal favourite a few whiffs of pure essential oil and I’m smiling:) Apart from being an uplifting top note, Neroli essential oil works in its gentle and sweet way to reduce pain, suffering, exhaustion and hormone related moods. It blends beautifully with other oils but can be used as is in an aroma burner. Note of caution – Avoid Neroli if you have a citrus allergy and if you need to be alert Eg during an exam as it can make you a little drowsy. And remember aromatherapy is a slow, gentle treatment best used along with allopathy and if not sure, check with your primary doctor.
Wishing you happiness 🙂

When was the last time you had a good belly laugh, till your stomach hurt and tears rolled down your eyes. And you felt so light after that because a part of you healed. According to research Children laugh an average of 400 times a day while we adults laugh only 15 times. Science and even holistic healing has revealed that laughing is good medicine. Not only does it make us feel better it reduces pain and lessens the damages of stress and modern day life and builds better bonds with other people. Make laughter a part of your self care practice. Watch a funny video. Read a joke. Call up that crazy buddy who has you cracking up in no time. Use humour to smooth over disagreements while at work today. Be spontaneous. And heal yourself with Life’s best medicine.

Talk your way to wellness

affirmations, positiveselftalk, self healing

While studying about self healing a few years ago I had come across the concept of talking to your cells. Achievable in a meditative state, it involved focussing on the area, organ, or muscle that was hurting or diseased and literally, sending positive affirmations to that spot. Combined with energy healing techniques and approached holistically it seemed to have helped countless people around the world. Especially when viewed from the perspective of mind, body soul connections, it gave me an indepth look at why a certain illness may have manifested. The physical manifestation was the last in the process, tracing its roots to our spirit and our mind. For example, a person who represses feelings or doesnt speak out, may, over time have issues related to thyroid and a perpetual sore and painful throat.

Every part of our bodies is governed by our soul and our thoughts. And too many times when we say “Oh I have bad knees” “My digestion is not good” “I am a terrible sleeper” ‘My back is weak” we are simply prolonging and in a way worsening our ailments. But if we begin to look at our bodies as our temple, our space for healing, purification and our friends till the end and begin to send positive messages to it, our body does heal.

A couple of months ago my knees began to hurt during my daily walks. It had reached a point where I began to get so anxious about the pain, it began while I wore my shoes. A trip to the orthopaedic, follow up xrays and blood tests revealed nothing wrong. So what was I blocking? Research revealed, painful knees were atitudes I was holding onto, issues of stubborness and control, plus of course the fact that I would think “my bad knees wont let me walk for more than 2-3km” I was making things worse for myself. And so I began to talk to my knees during meditation using positive affirmations like “My knees are getting stronger each day” and “I am flexible to adapting to Life’s changes” “I let go of beliefs and atitudes that no longer serve me” and “I am willing to walk through my fears” and gradually over a couple of weeks I began to see a positive difference.

Affirmations, self talk, communicating directly to the cells may seem zany at first, but it does work. The next time you wake up with a twinge in your back, or an itch in your throat, take a few minutes to meditate and go inwards. See if you can visualise the spot which hurts and just say to yourself “I am healing” Find out what attitudes you may be holding on to, or emotions you may be suppressing. Address them. Talk about them. Let them go with love. After all, its time we all loved our self more, cells and all.

Space Clearing with Agarwood

space clearing with agarwood

agarwoodcleanse

You know it’s time for a space clearing session when people start falling sick too often, worrying needlessly and always feel tired even in their own bedrooms. Space clearing is the purification of the atmosperic energies. And unlike other alternative healing remedies which take time to deliver results, the results here almost instantaneous.

There are countless ways to purify your living space ranging from healing crystals, chants, havans, himalayan singing bowls, aromatherapy etc You may like to experiment with different forms of healing alone or in combination. Your best guide is your own intuition.

Personally I’ve found aromatherapy works very well as it purifies the scent of the air and unconsciously we breathe in all that healing goodness, cleansing us internally as well. A session lasts about 15 minutes and is best done early in the mornings after Meditation or during Dusk – a time which many ancients seers believed to be the time of maximum negativity on Earth.

My alltime favourite space cleanser is Agarwood. Also known as Oudh, it’s a beautiful wood bark that’s been hailed for centuries for its superlative healing powers and soothing fragrance.

An instant uplifter only a 2cm piece of the bark is needed. You can burn it in an aroma burner or place 4 pieces in the corners of your space. “Agarwood calms the nervous system, expels negative energies, brings alertness, relieves anxiety, invokes a sense of strength and peace and enhances cerebral functioning. It helps create harmony in your home.”

For those who’d like to use it with their meditation, nothing could be better than Agarwood. Buddhists use agarwood for transmutation of ignorance. Tibetan monks use it to bring energy to calm the mind and spirit. The Sufis and Japanese Shaman use agarwood oil in their esoteric ceremonies. It enhances mental clarity, opens the third eye and all of the upper charkas while calming the entire system

Almost char black in colour, agarwood delivers instant relief and within hours of burning, you may feel the whole atmosphere of the home changing for the better.

Tibetan singing bowl and bell, personal collection

Sound is the force of creation and music in any form by way of instruments, objects like the conch and reeds, have been known to heal the human body for centuries. Trusted by the Shamans, the Ancient Egyptians, Tibetans, Native Americans and part of so many healing rites and rituals in India and beyond, it’s only now, in the recent past that Music/Sound Therapy has been taken seriously by Science and Psychology.

“In Sound we are born, in sound we are healed” – Mehtab Benton

The Multiple Benefits of Sound Therapy

Listening to soothing music, uplifting mantras, bells, conches, bowls and even the sounds of nature on a daily basis has been proved to help the human body in the following ways:

  1. Reduces stress and anxiety. A few minutes of sound therapy after a stressful day at work helps to unwind and relax.
  2. Not only do the sounds reduce blood pressure, anxiety and restlessness, healing sounds also aid the recovery process of any stressful event. In as little as 3 days studies have shown that the brain waves reach a resting state.
  3. The frequencies of sound healing with himalayan bowls realign and rebalance the chakra systems of the human body – bringing mind, body and soul back to alignment.
  4. Studies have revealed children with ADHD and victims of trauma felt a distinct calm after a sound therapy session.
  5. Shamanic drums, flutes, aboriginal didgeredoos have been known clear energetic blockages within the body, reducing depression and promoting a feeling of joy.

So the next time you feel dull, listless or demotivated, turn to your favourite sounds for at least 30 minutes and allow the right sounds to heal you.

When to use Camphor

Multiple uses of camphor, When to use camphor

A powerful anti bacterial agent, camphor crystals have been used for years to purify spaces and usher in positive energy. Extracted from the Cinammom Camphora tree, these fragrant white crystals are used during religious ceremonies. Camphor also has a number of medicinal properties including relief from joint pain, skin allergies and most popularly as a decongestant. The perfect way to soothe and heal mind, body and soul issues, here are a few times when you can burn camphor at home.

  • When you move into a new home or office. Camphor not only purifies and cleanses the environment of old, stale energies it also acts as an antibacterial agent removing germs and bacteria.
  • During flu or viral season especially when the season changes and there are bugs in the air, burning camphor daily helps protect the home and keeps insects away. Camphor is a natural decongestant and if rubbed on the chest and nose helps reduces stuffiness and congestion.
  • For pain relief and itching. Typically camphor is added in balms and creams for joint pain, fungal infections and itchiness. However, in such cases it is best to go for medically approved camphor based medication under the supervision of a doctor.
  • When you can’t sleep. Camphor essential oil or even camphor crystals in the bedroom help relieves stress and keeps the mind from overthinking. It is also known to reduce the chances of nightmares especially in young children who may be prone to night terrors.
  • When you’re anxious. Burning camphor after your morning prayers and meditations helps dispel any toxic energy from you and your surroundings. It purifies your space and works well after a fight, or an encounter with a toxic person.
  • When you’ve got money problems. Many believe camphor attracts prosperity and breaks any negativity associated with money blocks.
  • When you can’t focus on studies. Camphor is believed to aid concentration and calm and is especially good as a short term memory aide.
  • When you want to elevate your consciousness. Since camphor is associated with the sacred and divine, it is said burning camphor during meditation and prayer elevates, energises and allows for a deeper mystical connection with the Source.

As with all healing aides, camphor is best used in moderation. For medical ailments, do make sure it’s used under medical supervision. Never overdo things and ensure you wash your hands after use. Avoid ingesting camphor and do keep it away from the reach of small children. Camphor crystals and essential oils are easily available online and are fairly reasonably priced.

Sounds Good?

sound healing

Have you ever come home from noisy traffic and rushed straight into your bedroom or bathroom for some much needed peace and quiet?

Or found yourself getting cranky by the sounds of the construction work in your neighbourhood?

Or got a weird headache from listening to your friend gossip and bitch about the people in her life?

Or kept waking up after binge watching a crime thriller on Netflix?

That’s what happens when we literally absorb and internalise discord be it in the form of loud noises, negative people and violent images. Our bodies react and we crave peace and solitude to recover from the impact. Most of the times it’s done unconsciously, we don’t even realise why we’re sighing with relief after stepping into silence. But the rest of the time we need to be mindful. About what we’re exposing our beings to. Especially our ears.

Today choose to listen to soothing and uplifting music. Let your favourite songs bring you back to balance.

Switch off the news channels.

Disconnect from the gunshots, the screams, the violence.

Surround yourself with harmonious sounds and vibrations that communicate love and peace.

Sounds good? 🙂

Wishing you a day of happy sounds of laughter and peace:)

5 Ways to Let Go

Letting go is one of the hardest practices we will encounter, but once we do it, we wonder why we did’nt do it sooner. Many a times we find ourselves stuck about someone or something and people tell us to “let go”.

But how?

Here’s a few tried techniques that may work for you if you are struggling with something. Remember very very few of us have the ability to let go in a second. For the majority of us the process takes many tries. and time. Be patient, be persistent.

  1. Write it down and burn it.

Struggling with a relationship that’s over. Disturbed by someone’s insensitive behaviour which you find difficult to forgive? Psychologists and Healers recommend writing a long letter to them, pouring out your feelings and allowing the process to be cathartic. Get in touch with your feelings, remember what happened and write out your soul. When you’re done, just burn the letter. Chances are you may feel lighter and purged of your pain.

2. Connect with the Inner You

Meditate and focus on your breathing. Start paying attention to your mind and your body. Start getting aligned with you, your space, your feelings and thoughts. Too many times when we find ourselves too attached to others the pain comes as a reminder to detach and focus entirely on your seperateness from them. Get in touch with YOU. Appreciate and accept your who you are. Understand you cannot change anyone but yourself. Allow any feelings to arise and be kind with yourself.

3. Look for Closure

Most relationships break up without closure. People disappear without giving answers. And those who are left holding on wait for a final goodbye or some sort of sign from them to close the chapter. When it doesn’t happen, we have no choice but to find closure within ourselves. Say “My relationship with X is over” out loud during meditation, write it out, or talk to a trusted soul. Acknowledge and accept that it’s over. When you reach a space that someone or something was not meant to be in your life for a reason (which you may or may never know) you allow yourself to disconnect and restart.

4. Forgive Yourself. Forgive Them

The process of forgiveness can take a long time and comes with its share of reliving the pain. The pain is but a passing energy, let it flow out, once and for all. Contemplate on all the mistakes you made, realise your humanness. Contemplate on their mistakes, realise their humanness. Consciously work at forgiving and allow the peace to come in.

5. Distract Yourself

I find this technique works the fastest and at a practical level, it’s do-able. The key is to be mindful. Whenever you find overthinking about someone or something, do an activity that breaks the pattern. Clean your drawer. Delete the Junk mail. Go outdoors. Use your hands. It works in seconds as an important part of the process of letting go.

Letting go takes time and when it doesn’t happen naturally, we need to push ourselves out of our comfort zones to speed up the process. Not easy but necessary for our own growth. We allow ourselves a second chance and as the wise ones have always told us “when one door closes, another opens.”

If you’re still finding it difficult to let go, reach out for a guided healing meditation on Letting Go to get you started on your process of restarting and reshaping your life. Email me at mita.bhan@gmail.com for details.

“Tayata Om Bekanze Bekanze Maha Bekanze Radza Samudgate Soha” the Medicine Budha

One does not even need to go into the details of the suffering around the Corona virus to know that what the world needs right now is healing energy not the destructive energy of fear, ignorance and suffering.

If the news is disturbing you, or if you’re struggling with an ailment or are taking care of a loved one who is ill, the Medicine Buddha Mantra brings peace at a deep level. It can be chanted by anyone, healthy or otherwise and is believed to raise the purifying vibrations on this planet. Tibetan doctors believe if this mantra is recited 108 times by the patient into his glass of water, the water becomes charged by the Medicine Buddha and can be repeated till healing occurs.

“To the Bhagawan with equal compassion for all
Whose name when just heard dispels lower realms’ suffering
Dispeller of disease and the three poisons
I prostrate to Medicine Buddha Lapis Light.”

Tayata Om Bekanze Bekanze Maha Bekanze Radza Samudgate Soha

“The patient is to recite the long Medicine Buddha mantra 108 times over a glass of water. The water is now believed to be blessed by the power of the mantra and the blessing of the Medicine Buddha himself, and the patient is to drink the water. This practice is then repeated each day until the illness is cured.”
