inner beauty, pearl as a meditation symbol, you are perfect as you are

“I said I love you and that’s forever
And this I promise from the heart
I could not love you any better
I love you just the way you are” Billy Joel 1977

To receive a pearl during meditation is to receive divine love at its purest. Nothing more, nothing less. You are simply appreciated for who you are and what you do. Divinity loves us more than we can ever imagine.

Being Mindful about Crystals

21 Tuesday Aug 2018

IMG_8017

The last pieces in my Amethyst collection.

My deep love for Healing crystals, gemstones and stones began in childhood when I would admire the Jade jewellery worn by mom’s Chinese friends who’d tell me legends and superstitions around the gorgeous green stone. Over the years I began to study Crystals seriously and then learnt to heal with them.  All my savings were happily spent buying healing stones in India and across the world adding to my collection.

Ignorantly I was fuelling an industry that was not only raping our mines but exploiting the poor into destroying the environment. Horror stories of mining practices came to view and I decided to stop buying  any more new crystals. What I had in my collection would stay, be revered and used as healing tools. If people needed crystals they would be welcome to purchase from my existing stock but I would no longer add to my collection, nor take any requests to source a crystal.

Our mines are rapidly depleting . Let us leave what there is, buried in Earth and respect and cherish what we already have in our homes and offices. Mother Earth has been generous but as humans we’ve overdone the taking as usual. It’s time to conserve, stop buying and to work with what we already have.

clearquartz

We’ve all had times in our lives when we felt devoid of energy, listless and completely disinterested with life. Thankfully, it is a temporary condition for most of us. But, for those who feel tired often or are simply fatigued, here are some crystals which help uplift the energy and spirits.

Easily available with jewellers, feng shui and crystal healing stores, these crystals are affordable, have no side effects but must be cleansed under running water at least once after buying them. They may be worn as jewellery in the form of bracelets, pendants or rings or placed in strategic corners of your home and office.

Here are some Crystals which can work as energy boosters.

Clear Quartz (Sphatika)
Available in cut or polished form and in raw clusters, clear quartz has been hailed as ‘battery of the soul’ by healers over centuries. It not only helps dispel toxins but helps restore our body’s energy balance. The quartz is beneficial for the mind, body and the spirit. A clear quartz works at all levels, bringing in a sense of calm, clarity and harmony.

Green Tourmaline (Turmali)
Deep leaf green in hue, this semi precious stone is found in most jewellery shops. Also known as verdalite, it is best worn as a pendant or a bracelet in silver. It works as an all round healer, restoring the balance and bringing back positive energy. It not just dispels toxins and fears but aids in restful sleep and raising energy levels too.

Ametrine

A powerful combination of both amethyst and citrine, this purple and yellow stone helps you get clarity. It thus improves our focus and brings in harmony, making us optimistic. This stone will help you find a solution to any problem.

Citrine (Sunehla)

Ranging in shades from yellow to brown, citrine is hailed as the carrier of the sun’s rays. It is a powerful cleanser and regenerator of body cells. It works as an effective chakra activator and energizer; especially the solar plexus chakra (at the stomach). It also brings in joy and improves your physical energy too.

Healing crystals work in restoring energy, vitality and harmony into a person’s life. Slow and sure, these gifts of mother nature have helped millions of people through time. They can be used as effective complementary healing aids to reduce stress, anxiety and tiredness.

alternative aids for study, help your child during exams

Book-Candle

As parents we all know the joys and pains of bringing up a kid in today’s day and age. Admit, we were a better generation in terms of conscientiousness and responsibility, but didn’t our parents also think the same of themselves when it came to us? And yet, all parents want nothing more than to see their child happy, and do their best during exam time. Our children too know this fully well, and in our quest to see our children grow up and excel in a world that’s becoming more competitive with each passing day and so uncertain.

Here are a few tips or learnings which may help us give greater support, encouragement and confidence to our children during the final exams.

  1. Children absorb our feelings. If we are tense about their performance, or stressed they sense it and most of the time adopt the feeling as their own. A mother who paces around the house while her children study will probably have children who cannot sit down and focus. Your best advice is to stay calm. Consciously relax yourself, go for a walk and even if you’re afraid Junior is going to bring a dismal result, make sure Junior doesn’t sense that feeling.
  2. Set a routine and stress on the importance of healthy habits. Explain to your young one that studying last minute is not the best way to do things and reiterate the importance of a good night’s sleep and of course, nutritionally balanced meals. Boost their vitamin intake do try to minimize the junk food, especially sugar before bed times.
  3. Work and Play. Minimise the TV watching and try and get the whole family to avoid watching the idiot box altogether while you’re child is studying. The last thing our kids need is a noisy distraction! Pick up a book, do a crossword instead, children learn best by example
  4. Lemon essential oil or incense sticks boost concentration and clarity. A few drops of Lemon/Orange essential oil in the bath water may give that extra alertness required on exam days.
  5. Make sure your child releases the stress with some form of physical exercise daily even if it’s a brisk walk with you in the evenings. Small stress balls which the child can squeeze before the paper helps release the tension especially if your child is a little anxious.
  6. Remember, nothing helps a child succeed the way a parent who believes in his or her child does. Praise your child for his efforts and express confidence. After all, if you wont, who will.

How to Help your child with Night Terrors

Anyone who has ever woken up to the sounds of terror in the middle of the night knows how exactly our children are affected by nightmares. Most common between the ages of 2 and 4 years old, nightmares are a by product of the growing imagination of a young child and his or her ability to absorb and react to a number of stimuli during his or her waking hours. Some kids rarely have nightmares while others may wake up screaming several times a week or a night. Fears may vary from child to child but are a normal part of the growing years up till their teens.

Most kids outgrow this phase and their nightmares can be handled by the parent. However if the frequency increases or the child refuses to go to school or even get into the bedroom, it could be symptomatic of some serious stress in your child’s life and you may need to seek the advice of a child therapist.

If your child is experiencing nightmares here’s how you can help.

  1. Reassurance is critical. Some parents find by hugging the child and soothing him or her the anxiety levels decrease. Empathise with your little one and understand to him, his fear is very real. Remind him how safe he is and assure him of protection.
  2. Protective mantras, amulets and even a piece of iron under the bed has been used for centuries by parents as a means to ward off anxiety and negative energies.
  3. Lavender and Roman Chamomile essential oils promote restful sleep and work well with children.
  4. In colour therapy, pastel shades and light yellow in the bedroom are believed to promote a sense of calm, peace and courage.
  5. Healing crystals like Agate when placed beneath the pillow makes sleep deeper, calmer and more recuperative. Amazonite works well during phases of anxiety and stress and is best worn as a bracelet or a pendant. Like with a crystals, it is best to get them cleansed and energized by an energy healer before use.
  6. Avoid fear inducing stimulants before bedtime especially violent or scary TV shows and bedtime stories with scary themes or villains. Though the child may appear calm before bedtime, his subconscious absorbs and replays the images during deep sleep.
  7. Prayers before bedtime and placing of holy books by the bedside always reassure the child.

Finally, patience and love work wonders with nightmares in kids. As with all phases of childhood, this too shall pass.

Balancing Thyroid with Healing Crystals

Thyroid issues are cited as among the most frequently diagnosed ailments today in men and women affecting not just adults but young teens and in some cases even pre-adoloscents. Two kinds of thyroid ailments exist: Hypothyroid where the thyroid gland is underactive or sluggish leading to weight gain and a difficulty in shedding the extra kilos. Hyperthyroid or an overactive thyroid may result in weight loss and an inability to gain weight despite increased intake of food.

Apart from the physical symptoms related to weight a number of mental and emotional symptoms are associated with Thyroid ailments. Depression, anxiety, irritability, sexual dysfunction, sleep disturbances, negative thoughts and fears are common symptoms associated with Thyroid and can be minimised with alternative therapies like crystal healing.

Healing crystals for Thyroid issues can be worn in the form of a bracelet, a pendant or carried around in your pocket in the form of a tumbled stone. And if you are not one for carrying or wearing crystals, placing a large stone by your bedside or office table would work just as well.

The following healing crystals can be used for balancing the symptoms associated with Hypothyroid and Hyperthyroid.

  • Amber which is more a resin rather than a crystal is a lovely goldenish brown shade which is especially helpful in the case of an underactive thyroid gland. Amber boosts the absorption of iodine and has been used since ancient times for iodine deficiency. Best worn as an a necklace or a pendant, amber is easily available and affordable.
  • Blue Chalcedony, a beautiful pastel blue crystal works primarily as a relieving stone soothing an over active thyroid and reducing nervous tension. Ideal as a pendant or a necklace, Blue Chalcedony also helps to reduce anger, anxiety and mood swings.
  • Aquamarine, bluish green in colour, readily available though a little more pricey can work as a balancer for both hypothyroid and hyperthyroid. An effective regulator of the glands, Aquamarine also helps release negative thoughts, memories and unnecessary attachments to people and incidents of the past.
  • Royal blue with silvery-gold flecks, Lapiz Lazuli has been a popular choice for healers down the centuries. Not only does it harmonise the thyroid glands, it also promote mental harmony and focus on what’s truly important

Healing crystals work slowly but surely. Effects can be felt within a week or so of regular contact with the crystal. Containing zero side effects the only precaution while using healing crystals is to make sure they are cleansed an preferably energized by an energy healer. Before beginning any form of self healing it would be advisable to go in for an energy healing session with crystals to get a feel of how they work.

Heal Anxiety with Crystals

We all know what anxiety feels like. The butterflies in our stomach before a big exam. Or a nagging worry that just doesn’t let us find peace. In most of us, anxiety comes and goes and is quite manageable, but others who have chronic anxiety may experience symptoms such as constant tension, worry, edginess, fearfulness and restlessness. Such cases may need to supplement allopathic treatments with something more natural and gradual like energy healing, yoga, meditation or even healing crystals. Trusted for over thousands of years by ancient civilizations, these coloured gifts of Mother Nature have been known to alleviate and absorb a number of symptoms associated with anxiety by as much as 30-40% over time.

Healing crystals work very well as supportive therapy to allopathy. They can be worn as healing jewellery or placed on the chakras during a healing session with a therapist or simply placed in the bedroom or office. Or even carried around in your wallet or purse. The most commonly available healing crystals for absorbing anxiety include:

Blue Calcite, sky blue in colour and easily obtainable works gently and gradually in absorbing worry and other negative emotions. Best worn as a pendant set in silver, it can also be carried around in a tumbled form and held during an episode.

Iron Pyrite works well as a shield blocking out unnecessary negative thoughts and somewhere teaches us to differentiate between a real and imagined fear. An energy booster it works to overcoming the fatigue that can come with nervous tension. Best placed next to the pillow or placed on the chakra during a crystal therapy session.

Rose Quartz, the pink stone of love and compassion also works well to stabilize agitation and anxiety especially if it involves worry about a loved one. Best worn as a bracelet or a necklace, this crystals works at all all levels promoting a sense of peace and calm with extended use.

Amethyst, purple in colour this “worry stone” works as an absorber of sad feelings, unnecessary worry, insomnia and restlessness. Commonly available, amethyst is best worn as a bracelet, pendant set in silver or placed by the bedside to promote better sleep.

Most healing crystals will be available with an alternative healing store, your local jeweler or with a healer. Do remember to be patient with results, crystal healing is gradual, natural and works at many different levels subtly. An important note to always remember is the importance of cleansing and energizing healing crystals before use to maximize their effects.

How Well Do You Sleep?

Till I had my child I was what you called a sound sleeper. Power cuts, thunderstorms, firecrackers and even a wedding party in the front of the house couldn’t deprive me of my 9 hours of bliss. Motherhood changed everything as I found myself up at odd hours of the night changing diapers, burping the baby or simply fretting about his fever and flu. And I learnt just how debilitating sleep deprivation can be. I felt tired and groggy all day, irritable and restless and that’s when I realized just how valuable sleep is to the human body.

I tried all kinds of remedies, made a whole lot of changes into my and the baby’s routine and things improved drastically. I cant say I sleep as well as I used to but it’s definitely a whole lot better.

Here are a few time tested tips which have helped me find solace at night.

Don’t nap in the afternoon. Not only does it throw your body clock off gear it has the ability to keep you up at all kinds of odd hours worrying about the most mundane things. If you’re really exhausted, nap for 30 minutes at the most in the day.
Stick to a routine. Try and maintain a regular schedule of sleep especially on week days.
Avoid caffeine, alcohol, heavy meals and stimulants before bed time. You may find yourself pacing the house during the wee hours while the rest of the world snores away.
Feng Shui aides – the ancient Chinese art of geomancy places a lot of importance on sleep and the bedroom believing that the bedroom has an effect on the way you sleep, and this is a very important factor in staying healthy and happy and accumulating wealth.. Your bed should be comfortable, and the energy should flow smoothly throughout the room. You should not have anything under the bed, so that energy can circulate. Remove slippers, shoes, old clothes from under the bed. Remove paintings of water features (too much yin) and keep the colours pastel as far as possible avoiding loud primary colours in the linen and the curtains.
There is a saying in Feng Shui that when you sleep with your feet facing the door you will never stay at home. You will find that you will want to be on the go all the time and never feel relaxed when you are home. You will be on the go constantly.
You should have a solid wall behind your bed head for a solid night’s sleep and never sleep under a beam.
Crystals aid sleep. Amethyst and moon stone are excellent sleep aids as they absorb the stress and are believed to have a tranquilising effect on the mind. Keep a cluster by your bed side or a few pieces under your pillow.
Aromatherapy does make a difference – I have found Lavender and Chamomile to be the most soothing. Ideal for relieving stress and tiredness, burn some Lavender or Chamomile essential oil and incense sticks in the bedroom at least an hour before bedtime
Breathwork. Conscious relaxation with yogic breath work helps your body relax. Focus on your breathing for a few minutes after you lie down, inhale and exhale deeply and slowly and consciously allow your body to slow down. I have discovered combining breathwork and visualization helps me greatly especially on tiring days.
Massage. If your partner cant give you a good massage, try massaging the soles of your feet with a little olive oil in which a few drops of lavender/chamomile essential oil has been added. Gently rub into the soles applying pressure to the sore spots.

Ear Reflexology brings stress relief to minds that cannot stop ticking way past bedhour – try rubbing your ears gently every night.
Think of ten wonderful things that have happened to you today
Visualize yourself in a peaceful place, such as a field full of wildflowers with a gentle breeze blowing, or near a gently flowing stream where you can see fish swimming past you.
Listen to relaxing music, mantras or chants which help you relax and create a positive environment around you before you sleep.
Remember no one aide helps everyone, sometimes you may like to combine a few tips or go with one for a few nights before it has any effect.

Wishing you a good night’s sleep.

The Healing Power of Crystals and Gemstones

clear-quartz3

Having problems sleeping? Got too many issues to solve and it’s stressing you out? Wear an Amethyst or better still, place a cluster of these beautiful purple crystals right next to your bedside. And if you’re feeling stuck in your career or feeling strapped for cash, invest in a gem from the yellow family – Citrine, Yellow Sapphire, Imperial Topaz. Considered the stones of Jupiter, they help draw good fortune to those who wear it, and those who believe.

Whether you believe in the power of gems or crystals or not to change our lives to some degree, be it benefiting our health, wealth, state of mind or relationships, these beautifully cut and coloured pieces of Nature’s treasures have been revered for centuries by civilizations across the globe.. In fact, Crystals have been found in Neolithic graves and barrows. They were widely used in ancient Egypt, Mexico, Russia, and Africa, and among Native American cultures.

In the past 20 years or so, the interest in crystal healing has been revived in almost every part of the planet. Today you’ll find amulets, talismans, bracelets, objects made of crystal designed for a particular use.

Crystals and gems are highly powerful and effective tools for healing as they contain a number of special properties and interact with us in many different ways. One of these properties is the unique vibration of each crystal. Crystals and gems can be used for healing, stress, or stress related disorders, arthritis, and pain management, spiritual growth, intuitive growth, and relaxation.

Healers believe that gems and crystals can focus and enhance natural healing energy. They work electromagnetically by strengthening each person’s natural abilities to heal themselves and to send, receive and store information and healing energy. They are excellent personal growth tools that conduct universal energy, light, intentionally and electrical energy for healing. They have the ability to amplify, store, transmute, focus, and radiate high vibratory frequencies including healing light, color, sound, image, and electromagnetic waves into our body’s chakras and energy fields. Gems helps to reduce blocks, bringing our mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical vibratory frequencies into alignment.

There are 7 major chakra’s focused on during a healing session. Chakra are energy points in the body that correspond with the Endocrine glands. These need to be balanced and aligned to experience and maintain vibrant health and well being.

Root Chakra: Jasper, Garnet, Onyx, Rubies
Sacral Chakra: Carnelian, Hematite, Moonstone
Solar Plexus Chakra: Citrine, Amber, Topaz
Heart Chakra: Rose Quartz
Throat Chakra: Aquamarine, Turquoise
Third Eye Chakra: Amethyst, Sapphire
Crown Chakra: Clear Quartz, Amethyst
Crystal healing concentrates on the person as a whole being – emotions, body, spirit – not just the area of the physical body that needs healed.

Choosing Your Crystals

Cystals can be chosen to aid in specific ailments but many people find that they don’t choose their crystal, it chooses them. While casually perusing gems and crystals you may find that a particular item draws you to it. Follow your instincts. Your body needs all 7 color rays: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet; and you may unconsciously be drawn to the gems or crystals that is most appropriate for you.

Crystal Cleansing & Energizing

Because Crystals are so sensitive they tend to pick up negative and positive vibrations from their surroundings and whosoever holds them. After buying your crystal it is recommended to cleanse your crystals thoroughly, by soaking them overnight in water, or leaving them on the window sill to absorb sunlight or moonlight (be careful as some crystals fade in the sun) or to hold them under running water and then to clean them with a soft cloth.

The most common question I am asked about crystals is do they work? The answer has to be “Yes”, but they do need to be cleansed and charged correctly.

Because crystals store energy (and, when needed, release energy) it is important that the correct energy is stored within the crystal as they tend to absorb all energy, be it negative or positive.

After cleansing it is useful to energize crystals with healing energy so if you’re an energy worker, all it takes is a few minutes of concentrated energy and concentration of sending love and positive energy, and removing all negativity.

By energizing your gem or crystal with Reiki, affirmations, moonlight or mantras, you enhance the power of the crystal and focus it to your exclusive needs.

Take for example a young woman who was working in a BPO. When she came for a reading she was scattered, tired, irritable and felt she was doing too much for others and little for herself. As a result she was exhausted. After discussions, I chose a Red Agate for her – one of its properties being balancing emotions, health and helping the wearer focus on their own needs. Within a few weeks she felt a change in her energies. The next time she came to meet me she was distinctly calmer, with her priorities in place.

How effective are crystals?” This is a question I am constantly asked and I give my 33% theory. According to the Ancient Chinese, we come with 3 kinds of luck, Heaven Luck, Our own man made Luck and the Luck of the earth, crystals, gems etc. Hence, crystals and gems do work, but by about 33%. The rest of it is upto God and to us, on how we can change our lives for the better. Another thing to remember, is that will all modes of alternative healing, crystals and gems do take time. If you’re going to buy a crystal for yourself, do remember to cleanse it, energise and wait for a week before you feel results.
