inThe other day I received an email, here’s an excerpt:
Dear Mita,
In 2008 I had consulted you and taken 3 healing crystals for a stressful time in my life. Now I have even forgotten what they were for but they helped as there is so much peace in my life now thankfully. I found them in my bedside table today and dropped them by mistake and they have chipped and cracked. Does this mean bad luck??? What do I do with the broken crystals?”
Thanks for reaching out. And I am glad the crystals brought you peace at a time you needed it. According to ancient Crystal healers, a crystal breaks, cracks, falls off the ring clasp or even shatters when it’s work was done. Not a sign of bad luck at all, just a response by the crystals who have absorbed all that they could.
What do you do with broken crystals?
These gifts from Mother Earth are happiest in their natural habitat. And the best thing you can do is to return them. You may like to spend a few moments in reflection and gratitude for the peace they brought you and then :
Their work was done. A new chapter begins.
Wishing you peace and good health.
Don’t throw old your old crystals please to buy new ones. Many mines have been blasted and depleted of their resources. Work with your old crystals by cleansing and energising them.

inThere’s something very pure and sweet about the pastel pink rose quartz, a translucent crystal that’s common to almost every continent on our planet. Easily available and recognizable by its baby pink hues, this is hailed as the stone of infinite peace and love. And that’s what exactly it evokes in my every time I gaze at it, or work with its energies.
Holding a piece of rose quartz in the middle of a crisis, or when the stress levels begin to boing all over the place brings calm. Allow it absorb all the tension and replace the energies with reassurance and trust.
Rose being the symbol of love and pink the colour of loving vibrations combine to accentuate loving vibes with rose quartz. Placed in the marriage sector of a home, it can help towards restoring calm, harmony, encouragement and loving words. Placed on a work table, it helps to bring in a level of compassion and empathy between individuals.
A heartbreak healer, the rose quartz gently draws in the pain of grief and rejection and replaces it with a gradual acceptance of the situation and most importantly teaches us to love ourselves, a vital ingredient of a peaceful relationship.
In terms of physical ailments rose quartz has been known to strengthen heart and circulatory ailments, and is best worn as a pendant or necklace in the form of healing jewellery.
An aide for love in the highest sense, at a time when the world needs it the most, rose quartz teaches us the power of this powerful energy in the gentlest, sweetest manner.
(Don’t throw away your old crystals, they can be re-energised and reused effectively. Reduce. Reuse and Recycle)

(Recently a number of people have been complaining of sleep problems, dug out this old article written in 2008 about alternative sleep aides)
Till I had my child I was what you called a sound sleeper. Power cuts, thunderstorms, firecrackers and even a wedding party in the front of the house couldn’t deprive me of my 9 hours of bliss. Motherhood changed everything as I found myself up at odd hours of the night changing diapers, burping the baby or simply fretting about his fever and flu. And I learnt just how debilitating sleep deprivation can be. I felt tired and groggy all day, irritable and restless and that’s when I realized just how valuable sleep is to the human body.
I tried all kinds of remedies, made a whole lot of changes into my and the baby’s routine and things improved drastically. I cant say I sleep as well as I used to but it’s definitely a whole lot better.
Here are a few time tested tips which have helped me find solace at night.
Don’t nap in the afternoon. Not only does it throw your body clock off gear it has the ability to keep you up at all kinds of odd hours worrying about the most mundane things. If you’re really exhausted, nap for 30 minutes at the most in the day.
Stick to a routine. Try and maintain a regular schedule of sleep especially on week days.
Avoid caffeine, alcohol, heavy meals and stimulants before bed time. You may find yourself pacing the house during the wee hours while the rest of the world snores away.
Feng Shui aides – the ancient Chinese art of geomancy places a lot of importance on sleep and the bedroom believing that the bedroom has an effect on the way you sleep, and this is a very important factor in staying healthy and happy and accumulating wealth.. Your bed should be comfortable, and the energy should flow smoothly throughout the room. You should not have anything under the bed, so that energy can circulate. Remove slippers, shoes, old clothes from under the bed. Remove paintings of water features (too much yin) and keep the colours pastel as far as possible avoiding loud primary colours in the linen and the curtains.
There is a saying in Feng Shui that when you sleep with your feet facing the door you will never stay at home. You will find that you will want to be on the go all the time and never feel relaxed when you are home. You will be on the go constantly.
You should have a solid wall behind your bed head for a solid night’s sleep and never sleep under a beam.
Crystals aid sleep. Amethyst and moon stone are excellent sleep aids as they absorb the stress and are believed to have a tranquilising effect on the mind. Keep a cluster by your bed side or a few pieces under your pillow.
Aromatherapy does make a difference – I have found Lavender and Chamomile to be the most soothing. Ideal for relieving stress and tiredness, burn some Lavender or Chamomile essential oil and incense sticks in the bedroom at least an hour before bedtime
Breathwork. Conscious relaxation with yogic breath work helps your body relax. Focus on your breathing for a few minutes after you lie down, inhale and exhale deeply and slowly and consciously allow your body to slow down. I have discovered combining breathwork and visualization helps me greatly especially on tiring days.
Massage. If your partner cant give you a good massage, try massaging the soles of your feet with a little olive oil in which a few drops of lavender/chamomile essential oil has been added. Gently rub into the soles applying pressure to the sore spots.
Ear Reflexology brings stress relief to minds that cannot stop ticking way past bedhour – try rubbing your ears gently every night.
Hands on Reiki/Distant Reiki helps ease some of the residual subconscious stress subtly yet effectively.
Listen to relaxing music, mantras or chants which help you relax and create a positive environment around you before you sleep.
Remember no one aide helps everyone, sometimes you may like to combine a few tips or go with one for a few nights before it has any effect.
Wishing you a good night’s sleep.

Healing crystals has been a passion for me since 2000. Fascinated by the colours, textures and properties of these magical stones, I have spent years studying them and applying them to heal myself and others. Needless to say, I have learnt a lot from crystals but in recent years a whole lot more.
Lesson One – Reduce Shopping
Ignorance was Greedy Bliss . When it came to buying crystals I used to be like a kid in a candy shop, peering excitedly at what was on display, asking the sales executive questions, feeling the coloured tumbled stones and cabuchons in my palm and loading my shopping basket.
I had no clue what was going on behind the scenes as I soaked in the natural beauty of crystals and researched and applied their healing properties. My collection spanned numerous boxes and soon one shelf became two and then three.
Did I need so much?
Ignorantly I was fuelling an industry that was not only raping our mines but exploiting the poor into destroying the environment. Horror stories of mining practices came to view and I decided to stop buying any more new crystals in 2018. What I had in my collection would stay, be revered and used as healing tools. If people needed crystals they would be welcome to purchase from my existing stock but I would no longer add to my collection, nor take any requests to source a crystal.
Lesson Two – Reuse and Recycle Old Crystals
If you’ve stopped wearing the bracelet, or find the mala is collecting dust examine it for any chips/cracks or damage. Undamaged healing Crystals can be re-energised for a new intent or a new person provided they are cleansed right. An old healing bracelet which you no longer feel like wearing can be re-energized for the family room and hung on the wall. Old malas can be restrung into new and powerful combinations, the possibilities for re-use are endless as the inherent magnificence of the stone remains, and will continue to remain for centuries after you. I like to bury damaged and broken crystals back into the earth or have dropped them into the rivers. Back home to Nature where they came from.
Our Crystal mines are rapidly depleting. Chunks of land is blasted apart and too many labourers are being exploited. Let us leave what there is, buried in Earth and respect and cherish what we already have in our homes and offices. Mother Earth has been generous but as humans we’ve overdone the taking as usual. It’s time to conserve, stop buying and to work with what we already have.
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
