Throwback Thursday. Planetary Reminders

“What are you doing to protect our planet?”

Eight years ago our children were reminding us to do something.

Eight years on, I still remind myself to be mindful about the environment and have reduced, reused

and recycled, forgotten at times, felt guilty at times, but it isn’t enough and I know it.

Here are some timely reminders which I hope will help you as well.

  • As far as possible go chemical free. Read more labels. Opt for natural, homegrown, organic and local produce.
  • Single use plastic and masks should be used as the last option. Opt for reusable.
  • How much stuff do we all truly need. Open the wardrobes and give to the needy.
  • Animals and Birds are far purer in mind and heart than many many human beings. Volunteer. Share information about rescued street animals, injured birds, foster appeals, fundraisers, missing pets. Something is better than nothing. If you can’t help them. Then don’t hurt them.
  • Reduce water wastage. Save all left over water in a watering can and water the plants.
  • Stay in touch with Nature. Go for forest walks. Start gardening. Meditate outdoors.

We have only one home and that’s our planet. Even the smallest effort to reduce our carbon footprint can make a difference, and if I live to see grandchildren I do hope they see a cleaner, greener world.

Thank You Mother Nature

This morning’s visitor. Mr Swallowtail butterfly. Big, bold and curious. Judging from the time he spent, think he approved of my motley collection of plants.

Sometimes I have to go searching for positive energy and beauty in a world that can sometimes feel and look so ugly.

Sometimes Mother Nature sends me a visitor or shows me a glimpse of her simplicity and her breathtaking beauty.

Reminding me that though it doesn’t seem quite obvious there IS transformation and regeneration taking place. There is still hope for this planet.

Time to trust the process by learning from Nature.

Everything is exactly where it needs to be.

Everything is happening just the way it’s meant to be.

And there is still beauty in this world. Thank God!

Anxiety has a way of coming in waves. Some may be up all night thinking. Some may be bingeing . Some may be restless and confused. Some may wander about with this tight knot in your stomach. Completely natural during these difficult days, there are a few ways which have helped not only me release the anxiety but also countless others.

Here are 5 quick and easy ways to relieve yourself of anxiety.

Deep belly breathing or pranic breathing is the fastest way to release pent up stress and anxiety. Incorporate it as part of your meditation or just do this whenever you start feeling the knot of anxiety.

Spending more time outdoors. Even if it’s a walk in the neighbourhood park. Colour therapy speaks about the healing and soothing powers of the colour green. And who else can heal best but Mother Nature.
Keep a stress ball by your laptop, helps release any anxiety or agitation while interacting with others.

Eat more fruit. The scent of oranges is supposed to boost happiness. Green leafy vegetables, fish are rich sources of nutrients that help relax us nourish us naturally.
Burning Essential oils or Camphor Crystals . Lavender, Jasmine, Neroli by stimulating the smell nerve receptors and sending messages to the brain to relax. If you wake up with morning anxiety then burn it in the room upon arising, and if you suffer from evening bouts, then make sure you have your burners ready in the evening

Anxiety can hit us anytime and anywhere. And though it may initially feel like it’s getting too much, calming techniques like breathing, walking or even talking to a friend can bring relief. However, if you feel it’s chronic, or not lessening despite natural aides, do consult your medical practitioner.

Live and Let Live

The reason I dedicate a part of my earnings to the rescue and care of street animals and wildlife is because there are so many people who want to hurt them, move them out of the way, destroy their habitat and simply profit off them. Animals are living, breathing cohabitants of Earth. They too have their feelings, and every right to this planet we call home. They can sense the fear and hatred in some people’s eyes towards them and will do whatever they can to protect themselves. If you brandish a stick at a street dog during your morning walks, he is going to look at you suspiciously and growl. If you do throw water at a group of monkeys searching for food because their habitat is destroyed they will come after you. Karma doesn’t miss a thing. Animals don’t expect you to love them, just accept them, cohabit and be kind.

With every Tarot reading, Reiki session, Meditation session or Workshop with Mita Bhan, a percentage of earnings goes towards the care of wildlife and street animals.

Did you know the sound of water is therapeutic?

Sitting by the ocean listening to the sound of the waves.

Raindrops on your window pane.

The gentle melodies of a waterfall.

The babbling of a stream.

Simply listening for a few minutes helps bring our bodies back to balance and allows us to reconnect with our inner essence. Regardless of how technically advanced the world is becoming we still need to connect with the source of Nature. Listening to the sound of running water has been proven to be an extremely effective way to detach, de-stress and find our own sense of harmony. Our brains respond to the sounds within minutes and if it’s not possible to get to a natural water body, the effect is the same with a recording or by bringing a small water fountain in your office or home.

Science too has proven that the human brain enjoys the power of relaxation brought upon by the sounds of Nature in real time or in a recording. The sounds of flowing water relax the central nervous system and some studies have revealed that people who listen to the sounds of nature especially water, are more productive and focussed than others.

So the next time you’ve had a sensory overload from listening to the sounds of traffic and construction, take out 5 minutes to listen to the sounds of water.

niagara falls symbolism in meditation

I

To see a waterfall or the Niagara Falls in particular during meditation means you are coming one level closer to you. As you go inwards you learn to befriend your essential self. Waterfalls a symbolise the letting go of a layer of emotion or conditioning that’s been holding you back. Sometimes the meditation is followed by an emotional release. When you let go of the pain, you learn to live again.

Protect Your Energy. Say No.

energy vampires, maintain your peace, protect your energy, say no to the drainers

redlight

Some people are just consumed by their own negativity. They seek help but then start to argue, berate, belittle the person trying to help them. They refuse to acknowledge there could be a problem in their attitude or their way of looking at things and end up draining others with their refusal to see the positive in anything. It could be their anxiety, their fear or their bitterness that blocks them from receiving help, love and advice. And they end up frustrated and leaving loved ones and even those who try to help them drained. Recognise such people and protect your energy. It’s okay to say No to them. Block them from calling. And ignore their provocations. Saying No to someone who doesn’t want to be helped is simply an act of self preservation. Your first priority is to yourself regardless of what you do for a living or how they may be related to you. If someone disturbs your levels of inner peace, just say No.

Are you a Water Baby?

18 Thursday Jan 2018

waterfall

Do you generally like being in or around large bodies of water like the sea or the lake? Are your happiest childhood memories around splashing in the sea?

Do you find you are able to relax instantly with the sound of running water?

Chances are you’re a Water Baby who is most calm and natural around water. The curative powers of water are well known but water babies have a special affinity with these precious drops of existence.

According to alternative healing water heals at all levels – mind, body and soul. Here are a few practices involving water healing:

The Sound of Water is said to lower blood pressure, bring tranquility and clarity to the mind and reduce anger and sadness as it allows us to look at our problems objectively and with calm.

The science of Hydrotherapy uses water to rejuvenate, maintain and bring back health. Treatments could range from steam baths, foot baths to the application of compresses. Aquatic physiotherapy involves bringing relief and mobility to the joints in a heated pool environment as well as spinal and orthopaedic ailments to name a few.

Water is vital to our survival and our healing. Water not only cleans our skin but detoxifies us internally and soothes us on the mental plane.

In Ayurveda, sipping hot water throughout the day aids and strengthens the digestive system and promote inner balance.

The Water element is one of the 5 basic elements or characteristics of Chi in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Every one of us is a unique blend of the influences of all the elements – namely water, wind, earth, fire and metal. Symbolising the kidney and the bladder, imbalances in the water element leads to ailments like water retention, infertility, night sweats and anxiety.

Used in traditional purification rituals in almost all cultures, Water in its essence symbolizes purity, cleanliness and peace.

Water heals inside and out. Even if we’re not water babies we still need it to live and stay healthy in the body, in the mind and in the soul. Drinking 8 glasses is a widely recommended by all doctors for hydration and inner harmony.
